Step back into one of the most celebrated acoustic performances in guitar history with our Eric Clapton Unplugged Series. Recorded for MTV at Bray Studios in 1992, Unplugged saw Clapton strip away the electric guitars and big production to revisit his music through acoustic blues, folk and fingerstyle playing. The album became a huge success, winning six Grammy Awards and introducing a new generation of guitarists to the power of acoustic guitar. Across the series we’ll explore four fantastic tracks from the album: Layla, Signe, Old Love and San Francisco Bay Blues. Together they showcase very different sides of Clapton’s acoustic playing—from the completely reimagined, laid-back shuffle of Layla and the intricate fingerstyle instrumental Signe, to the expressive blues improvisation of Old Love and the upbeat acoustic fun of San Francisco Bay Blues.
Along the way we’ll work on fingerstyle technique, acoustic rhythm and groove, chord embellishments, bass and melody independence, blues licks, bends, vibrato and improvisation.
