In this session of Acoustic Heroes, we’ll explore the techniques that make these Radiohead songs so captivating. You’ll learn how subtle fingerpicking patterns, expressive dynamics and sophisticated chord voicings combine to create the unmistakable Radiohead sound. We’ll also look at the harmony behind the songs, helping you understand why they work as well as how to play them.
Both songs have become cultural landmarks, appearing in films, television and countless live performances, and continue to inspire acoustic players around the world.
Street Spirit is a looping pattern that sits effortlessly behind a haunting vocal melody. We will be able to cover it relatively quickly. That will allow us to put 65% of the lesson time towards our own exclusive fingerstyle arrangement of No Surprises, created specifically to accompany a solo singer. It goes beyond the original guitar part, incorporating the iconic elements from multiple instruments to showcase the beautiful textures, melodic movement and stunning artificial harmonics that create an arrangement that’s both accessible and incredibly rewarding to play. It’s the perfect showcase piece for any acoustic guitarist looking to add something truly special to their repertoire.
This online course is aimed at Intermediate players. However, high beginners and those who love Radiohead can all benefit from the course. You’ll get the materials and a video of the lesson to use at anytime afterwards. So you can work at your own pace.
It’s really for acoustic guitars but electric guitars are fine. Fingerpicking experience would be best.
