Discover the art of acoustic guitar through four varied sessions celebrating some of the greatest acoustic songs ever written. Acoustic Heroes explores the playing styles of legendary artists whose music has inspired generations of guitarists, helping you develop your technique, musicality and confidence while learning songs you’ll love to play.
Each session focuses on two iconic arrangements, revealing the fingerpicking patterns, chord voicings, harmony and performance techniques that make these songs so timeless.
James Taylor – Fire and Rain & Carolina In My Mind
Rather than simply teaching you two songs, we’ll uncover the musical ideas behind them so you can apply James Taylor’s signature style to your own playing. By the end of the session you’ll not only be playing these timeless classics with greater confidence, but you’ll also have a whole new set of fingerstyle tools to use in countless other songs.
Whether you’re new to fingerpicking or looking to add more feel, finesse and musicality to your acoustic playing, this is the perfect place to start.
Eva Cassidy – Fields of Gold & Somewhere Over the Rainbow
These aren’t complicated showpieces—they’re thoughtfully crafted arrangements that allow the song to shine. Eva Cassidy’s vocal is often unmatched for its beauty, sitting perfectly over the musical accompaniment that she crafted. The two songs we are covering are the perfect introduction to her style of fingerstyle guitar, and lovely pieces for those wanting to branch out their harmony and figerstyle technique.
Sting – Fragile & Shape of My Heart
Both songs have enjoyed an enduring place in popular culture, appearing in films, television and live performances around the world. Their timeless appeal and elegant guitar parts make them essential additions to any fingerstyle player’s repertoire.
Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) & No Surprises
Street Spirit is a looping pattern that sits effortlessly behind a haunting vocal melody. We will be able to cover it relatively quickly. That will allow us to put 65% of the lesson time towards our own exclusive fingerstyle arrangement of No Surprises, created specifically to accompany a solo singer.
Whether you’re new to fingerstyle or looking to expand your repertoire, these beautifully crafted songs are the perfect way to develop your touch, timing and musical expression.
Each session can be booked individually for £20, or save £20 by booking the complete four-session series in one purchase.
The sessions vary in complexity slightly but Intermediate players will do well. High beginners will find some material at their level, other sections are higher than you might cope with. However, that shouldn’t put you off coming on the series as you’ll get all the materials and the video recordings of each lesson. You can then work at your own pace.
It’s really for acoustic guitars but electric guitars are fine. Fingerpicking experience would be best.
