Sweet Home Alabama

This is a real crowd-pleaser and an absolute ‘must’ for all players. It’s essentially just three chords but there’s a lot in, and around, them! Learn the rhythm guitar part as it’s really played as well as the iconic riffs. Lots of techniques to explore but the drive and groove are simply captivating – the first bar just grabs you!

Overview

In a single lesson we’ll be looking in detail at the entire rhythm guitarist part: the song form, rhythm,  chords, riffs for each chord, picking technique (double stops, string skipping, palm muting and a whole lot more); essentially the guts of the song. But we also have planned in solo 1 – if there’s time then we’ll go through it in detail; it’s very accessible to players of most levels and is a wonderful add-on to the overall song.

It’s amazing how this three chord song can maintain your attention throughout by using a simple thread of repetitive chords but with  iconic riffs interspersed. One of the best songs ever.

Course level

This course is aimed at intermediate level players: picking, strumming, techniques, lots open chords but some barres thrown in. An acoustic player should be fine but electric is preferred. Also, it’ll be fine to use just fingers but plectrum players would be better suited.

But low intermediate, and even beginner+, levels will pick up the basic rhythm, chords and song form (a PDF specifically for this level has been included). Come along and try it out – it’ll spur you on to learn the whole piece.

Materials

1 x full PDF score with both solos included

1 x beginner PDF score (no solos included)

7 x section videos

Backing track

3 x MP3s of the original track at various speeds to play along to.
