The style of Jimi Hendrix (The wind cries Mary)

Welcome to one of our Music Corners where we delve into the techniques and know-how behind the music i.e. the detail you won’t pick up on a google search.

This week, we’ll be looking at the unique style of the legendary Jimi Hendrix through his superb, classic rock ballad ‘The wind cries Mary’.

What will we be covering?

Jimi Hendrix is one of the all-time greats. We’ll be looking at his style through the classic rock ballad ‘The wind cries Mary’ which has a great melody, lots of basic chords, groovy rhythm playing, awesome licks and intermixed with accessible riffs based around the chords.

As in all these Music Corner sessions we’ll be looking at essential techniques, practical theory and very useful know-how underpinning the song i.e. insights behind the music and what makes the song work.

Who’s this session suitable for?

Intermediate acoustic and electric guitar players.

A good guideline is that you should be able to play a 12 bar blues in Bb.

Materials

You’ll receive any lesson PDF(s) just before the session and we’ll make a Zoom recording of the live lesson available to you afterwards.

Homework

The session is 60 minutes long; don’t expect to master everything during the session.

The real work is done by you afterwards. Armed with the materials (PDFs and video  recording), you’ll have all the tools to work on things at your own pace.

Booking a place and buying options

When you book you’ll have two options:

You’ll receive the joining instructions on the day. Being live, you’ll be able to put your own questions directly to the tutor during the session. Choose option 1, Live session and materials.

2. Maybe you’d like to attend but can’t make it on this occasion?

You can buy the materials and receive them after the session (i.e. lesson PDF(s) and access to a Zoom recording of the live session). Choose option 2, Materials only.
