Playing guitar when things stop working

Lots of players suffer with medical conditions ranging from strokes, arthritis, muscular problems, nerve endings, etc. To say the least, it must be so frustrating to know that you once used to able play stuff that now is either too difficult or painful or both. One of our recent course players has such a set of problems. He’s happy to share how he deals with them and still plays great guitar. FREE ZOOM SESSION !

One of our recent course attendees (Brian W) has a debilitating disease that he has lived with, and continues to live with. It has had drastic implications for his life and his guitar playing. He has shared all of this in his Adapting your playing when things stop working article which was published in our September newsletter.

Brian has kindly offered to run a Zoom session to discuss the subject in detail and demo how he continues to make great music.

He has the use of two fretting hand fingers (although his 3rd one can sometimes flop across strings to help out) and can only pluck using the back of his first finger. He can’t use his thumbs to provide pressure to the back of the neck and he can’t hold a plectrum.

However, it’s amazing what he can still do both in life and playing the guitar (and I think he’s trying the bass on a course later this year). He’ll also tell us about the gear he uses to help achieve a great sound.

Join us and ask your questions.
