BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER - Solo Gtr Arrangement

In this lesson we’ll be learning a bespoke arrangement of one of the most loved songs ever, Simon & Garfunkel’s classic Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Bridge Over Troubled Water topped the charts in over ten countries and received six Grammy Awards at the 1971 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. The album has sold over 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time and at the time of its release, the best-selling album ever.

You’ll be learning how to take the chords and vocal melody and combine them into one musical finger style performance piece.

What we’ll be covering

For those that have been following our Blitzing Finger Style Guitar Series  you’ll enjoy this arrangement of Simon & Garfunkel’s famous song Bridge Over Troubled Water. The song showcases Art Garfunkels vocal prowess and shows the true writing power of Paul Simon. The melody is as iconic now as it was when it was first released and will likely still be played for many years to come.

We will be teaching you how to play a unique arrangement for solo finger style guitar that combines all the signature elements of the song into one performance.

What to expect

  • Arpeggio fingerpicking – maintaining a steady arpeggiating pattern .
  • Thumb independence – keeping the bass moving and developing melody between there chord shapes.
  • Syncopation – many of the upper notes and chord embellishments fall between the main beats, creating the arrangements flowing feel.
  • Hammer-ons and chord embellishments – adding movement and melodic detail without interrupting the picking pattern.
  • Fretboard knowledge – you will use chord voicings across the entire neck
  • Barre chords – to allow for full arrangement possibilities you will need to be able to play basic barre chords
  • CAGED triads – these are used to simplify some of the barre chords while containing the harmony of the song
  • Fingerstyle chord changes – changing shapes smoothly while maintaining an uninterrupted picking pattern.
  • Dynamics and touch – getting the notes right is only part of it; the delicate, controlled delivery is essential to capturing the character of the arrangement.

 

Who’s this session suitable for?

This online course is aimed at Intermediate and up players.

It’s really for acoustic guitars but electric guitars are fine.
