What will we be covering?

This residential course is focused on taking your guitar playing to the next level whilst having a fun and sociable weekend with a group of hobby players.

At a glance

We’ll look at harmony, melody, rhythm, technique and theory/know-how. The course will cover multiple genres and styles with classic songs to add to your repertoire (Blues, Pop, Rock, Folk, Country and maybe even Jazz, Reggae and more). But really the course is about improving playing skills, building confidence and helping you to enjoy playing the guitar.

It’s a busy weekend with over 15 hours of teaching/playing sessions (this excludes the jamming-out at the end of each day!). There are usually lots of opportunities for solo performances for those interested and evening projects for smaller sub-groups. The weekend will simply fly by!

By the end of the course you should have the tools and understanding to play some cool songs:

• strumming and fingerpicking chords all over the neck with interesting grooves and maybe adding in a few passing chords and fills.
• have a wider palette of scales at your disposal for solos, adding in some spice here and there and have a better appreciation of the quality of the notes and phrasing.

You’ll be learning and playing as part of a group of diverse players; our tutor might therefore decide to tweak things to fit a group’s overall playing level and combined aspirations.

Who’s this course suitable for?

Acoustic, electric and bass players of low-intermediate and above levels.

If you can play most open chords, have started to tackle basic barre chords and can change between them reasonably easily whilst strumming (ideally with a plectrum) then you should be fine.

Similarly, bass players should know a few essential basic arpeggios and be able to attempt to play them over chord changes.

What’s included in the price?

There are a number of ways of attending our courses: residential, non-residential and sharing with a spouse/partner.

Our price for players is all-inclusive:

• tuition and materials
• accommodation and breakfasts (double en suite room whether single or sharing)
• dinners, lunch and morning/afternoon refreshment breaks)

Our prices for:

• Non-residential players exclude B&B.
• Non-playing sharing spouse/partners exclude: lunch and refreshments.

Materials

• Prep sheets are available before the course on request.
• Course sheets will be handed out over the weekend.
• Revision and practice materials will be made available to you after the course e.g. audio/video recordings, any supplementary PDFs and photos of flip charts.
