Our Get creative with chords course is split across two connected, but totally separate, lessons. In Part 1 we looked at how chords are built, when and how to use substitutes and extensions to embellish a piece and how progressions work in filling out repetitive bars, etc. As part of the know-how we covered snippets of songs to help demonstrate the key points. (Part 1 materials are available as prep for Part 2 – see buying options)
In this lesson (Part 2) we build on Part 1 by taking all of the chords we’ve looked at one stage further (adding in dim7 and aug7 options as well) using five arranged pieces ranging from semi-classical, modern, funk to blues.
We gradually build up the colour and complexity of standard chord progressions and show you how to knit these together for your own songs.
If you missed Part 1?
We have Part 1 materials available to purchase as prep for this course but if you already know basic chords (major, minor, dom7, m7 and maj7) and have maybe slotted in an dim7 here and there then you’ll be fine for this Part 2 lesson. It’ll use a mix of open, barre, partial-barre, slash, etc. chords.
Course level: The course is suitable for intermediate and above acoustic and electric guitar players.
We have already mentioned the Part 1 materials as prep for this Part 2 course. Part 2 has a detailed lesson PDF/TAB sheets along with 9 videos covering all of the examples/exercises.
We’ve always recognised that the real work takes place after a course and that’s why we pay special attention to the materials in order to help with home practice. The earlier you book, the earlier you get access to the core materials.
