Dear Friend
Welcome to one of our Guitar Weekends. Don’t worry. All of the others
that are playing at the moment are not streets ahead of you. They’re
just playing different things to what you do. Likewise, when you’re
playing, they’ll all feel a little bit humble too.
Friday night is very informal (even chaotic) and serves two purposes.
Firstly to get you all a bit more relaxed in each other’s company, and
secondly for us to get a fair idea of the various styles and abilities.
The real work starts Saturday morning. Things will get quite intensive at
times. Don’t worry if you get lost. Ask for help – that’s what
you’re here for, remember? The evening jam sessions can go on quite
late. This is chill-out time, not study time. Again don’t feel that you have
to stay up ‘til 2am. When you want to hit the sack, just say
"Goodnight lads" and go! You won’t be considered a party
pooper!
The daytime work, as I say, can be intense. But there are well-scheduled
breaks throughout the day, and if you feel like you could do with clearing
the mind and going for a walk at anytime, please just let us know. If
somebody struggles on something, please be patient and give him or her the
time to sort it out. An hour later and it could be you!
While you’re in bed tonight, try to make a note of any particular
points or questions that you want cleared up over this weekend. I
guarantee you won’t be able to think of any tomorrow when the time
comes.
Finally, it’s personalities that determine how well these weekends
work. If someone seems aggressive, it’s probably just nerves. Then
again…
The playing side of things is where personalities really make themselves
more apparent – the quiet shy types, or the aggressive "everybody
follow me ‘cos I’m not changing" types. Try to be as open minded
as possible. You’ll find the weekend far more enjoyable and you’ll
learn much more that way.
Thanks for
taking the time to read this. We hope you enjoy a really good weekend.
ENJOY!
Malcolm
