Rod Sinclair,
Blues weekends
Rod
Sinclair is our blues guitar tutor, he has worked as
a guitar player for 40yrs and for the last 16yrs has
taught on the BMus (Hons) programme in jazz, popular
and commercial music at Newcastle College.
Having
initially gained a BA in Music from Northumbria
University he has recently completed a doctorate in
‘Acoustic Guitar Practice and Composition’ from
Newcastle University. Rod has played at numerous
blues festivals and major venues, recorded albums,
appeared on television and radio and published 32
articles in Total Guitar magazine.
As a
guitar player he has experience in a wide range of
guitar styles including blues soul and jazz, but on
this weekend focuses on electric and acoustic blues,
and slide styles. Taking influence from such
electric guitars players as Albert King, Stevie Ray
Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Robben Ford, slide players
Ry Cooder and Sonny Landreth, acoustic players
Robert Johnson and Blind Blake.
Rod is also a busy player, gigging with the Big
Mo Blues Band and also doing duo acoustic sets
with Mo and other guitarists. He is also very busy with
session work and recording. He has been involved with a
channel 4 TV film and appeared in an episode of
Spender. Rod has a CD out with the renowned guitarist
James Birkett.
