Ian has been teaching on the Gypsy Jazz weekends here
Guitar Weekends since 1994. He began to study the music
of Django Reinhardt in 1978, when he formed a band
called ‘Swing Guitars’ and began to promote UK tours for
Gypsy guitarists from the Continent.Ian
Has worked extensively with several leading Gypsy
Guitarists, bringing many of them to the UK
to perform, as well as
performing with top British and American musicians.
He was producer and music co-ordinator for the TV
Documentary, ‘Django Legacy’. He had
organised ‘The Gypsy Jazz Guitar Festival’
annually From 1997 to 2000, the first of their kind in
the UK
He has personally
taught 100’s of guitarists for decades
including some advice given to Hank Marvin; Plus
Leading
a trio/quartet, ‘Ian Cruickshank’s Gypsy Jazz’.
He has
published an instructional
video/DVD, ‘Gypsy Jazz Guitar’ and has written many
magazine articles about Django and other jazz guitarists,
plus many instructional books on this style of playing.
