Further
information
On Rod's weekend you will learn how to approach the Blues with both electric and acoustic styles of playing.
You will cover lead playing, rhythm playing and look at the techniques of
players such as Freddie King, Steve Ray Vaughan, Albert King, Eric
Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Blake to name just a few.
On the Sunday morning we will do a workshop on slide playing, it's not as difficult as you think.
Take note: for slide playing you only need an old guitar with heavy gauge strings and a high action. Bring
a slide that fits nicely on your third finger with you.
The aim of the weekend is to get you playing no matter what level of ability you are at.
With learning in a group it allows you to appreciate what it's like playing with others. We do have people of differing abilities on the same course so don't worry about how good you are.
We will get you playing with others and enjoying it, as well as learning some very useful techniques.
We will have constructive and controlled jam sessions.
We will look at some specific pieces and break them down into easily manageable elements and see what can be improvised over them.
We will look at the scales and chords you need to know for blues playing and it's not just 7th's and the blues scale.
The Blues weekend is our most popular course so early booking is advised as we only do five a year and one of those could be a
next level Blues Two course covering the playing styles of guitarists such as Robben Ford, in which case you need to have been on the basic weekend before coming on that one.
