Dear Malcolm,

I thought I would write to let you know how much I enjoyed the Blues Weekend I came on from 31st October to 2nd November. Sorry it's such a belated letter, but events have overtaken me since I came up to see you.

To say that the weekend gave me the impetus to go on to greater thing would be an understatement. It really improved my confidence, as well as my playing.

This happened to such an extent that last Saturday, I actually stood up in front of around 50 - 60 people at our regular pub and did a ½ hour set of Shadows songs. I don't think that I would have had the nerve to do this if it hadn't been for the weekend, and the advice of Rod Sinclair. I now have to refine my playing as I have volunteered to do a set at a local charity function at the end of February in front of around 500 people.

I am also now hoping to go and stand up and play at our local blues jamming nights in the near future.

I don't think hat I could have progressed this much without the week-end. I am keeping an eye on your website, and hopefully we will be able to come up again this year, especially if you have any more of the Sunday afternoon workshops, which we both really enjoyed.

All the best for 2004.

Hello Malcolm,
At my age the ability to retain new information is somewhat diminished but I think I have remembered enough
of the weekend's activity to provide months/years of practice and inspiration. It was so good to meet other people with
the same aims and frustrations and I will have no hesitation in recommending the course to other guitarists.
I would have enjoyed it even if I'd only been a rhythm player.
Whilst I don't think I will be back next year, as I've other priorities, I would hope to attend again in the not-too-distant future.
I also had a successful (!) visit to Roger Bucknall and ended up ordering one of his wonderful 30th Anniversary guitars.
As soon as I picked it up I knew it was the "right" guitar and the only one I will end up with. So now I will be selling my
Gibson and one or two other machines. At this stage my wife is not filing for divorce!
Best wishes

well done, Malcolm for organising a great weekend. I enjoyed it very much and you made our stay comfortable. was quite impressed that my bar bill was the highest - this has never happened before - but i would like to think that this was due to others showing great restraint rather than my heavy drinking! anyway, better go - back to the grind take care

Hi All

Hope you all got home OK. After a bumpy night on the Ferry, Marilyn and myself got back to Shetland at 7.00am Tuesday and went straight to work for 9.00am.
We have thought a lot about last weekend at Beckfoot and both think that it was the most enjoyable weekend we have ever spent anywhere.

I believe that as we get older, most things we do are just repeats of previous experiences but last weekend was a completly new experience for me and one that I will remenber with fondness for a long time. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.

I have been practicing using the two fingered plucking that Lin showed me, I might as well be using two left feet but I am going to persevere as I can see the advantages of it.

I spoke a lot last weekend about building our new house so I thought I would attach a couple of photos, one of the site and house foundations and the other of the view we will  have from our sitting room, as you can see there are very few trees in Shetland.

I was so impresseed with last weekend that I have provisionally booked to go on the Country Weekend in November 2004, I hope some or all of you can be there.

Best Regards
